This activity is designed to provide an overview of Patient Blood Management (PBM) incorporating current guidelines and recent studies to support the appropriate use of blood and blood components for better patient outcomes.

Anemia is a common occurrence in the preoperative patient and can impact surgical and medical outcomes.  This activity will review the evaluation of anemia and provide current recommendations for the management of the preoperative patient who presents with anemia.

Intra-operative blood recovery can reduce or eliminate the need for allogeneic blood transfusion. This educational activity provides a description of the technology of a blood recovery system, indications for use, benefits of incorporation as part of a patient blood management program as well as case examples.
