From Vein to Vein: Blood Basics from Donor to Patient Transfusion

This online learning activity will present information about blood component preparation and compatibility, how to administer blood components and recognition of transfusion reactions with the goal of increasing each participant's knowledge about the blood transfusion process and ultimately improving patient safety. The program consists of 3 modules approximately 30 minutes each in duration.  Each module has a narrated lesson and knowledge assessment based on information provided. Participants must receive a passing score (>70%) on each knowledge assessment and complete the activity evaluation to be eligible for their CE certificate. (1.5 contact hours to be awarded for successful completion). Program Fee: $10

Transfusion Reactions: A Nursing Perspective

This case-based interactive learning activity will review acute transfusion reactions, associated signs and symptoms, expected nursing actions to complete and possible treatment of the reactions. The purpose of the activity is to enable the bedside nurse to incorporate enhanced knowledge of acute transfusion reactions into practice thus improving recognition  and reporting of acute transfusion reactions which is an integral part of hemovigilance.  Improved recognition and reporting will promote transfusion safety and improve blood administration practice.
